SASKIA PORTMAN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM REVIEW

During my time as a Wired Amazon volunteer I enjoyed helping on all the projects whilst seeing some of the rarest wildlife the Amazon has to offer: a silky anteater, a tayra, an Amazon coral snake, a tropical flat snake, a yellow-tailed tree boa and porcupines.

The most rewarding part of experience was helping build macaw nests and setting camera traps. Being able to see live video feeds from the nests and footage of an armadillo really made real the impact of the work done here and my own small contribution to it. Following monkeys for audio recordings and discovering new species of insects at the light trap was similarly illuminating, and gave me a better insight into the way scientific data is collected and research today is conducted.
